Fallow deer are a striking species native to western Eurasia, known for their distinctive spotted coats that range from white and tan to dark brown and black. Males are easily recognized by their broad, palmate antlers, which can grow up to three feet long and set them apart from other deer species.

As herbivores, fallow deer feed on grasses, leaves, and a variety of vegetation, including acorns, nuts, and fruits when available. They are social animals that live in herds of varying size. During the fall breeding season, males compete for dominance through displays and physical contests, with successful bucks mating with multiple females. Popular as game animals and admired for their beauty and grace, fallow deer have also been introduced to regions outside their native range, including parts of the United States.
